Six people are in West Midlands Police custody after being arrested in Dover on suspicion of Syria-related terrorism offences.
Five men and one woman were detained at about 8am on Friday in the south coast port.
Officers were searching a number of addresses in Birmingham.
The arrests were part of an on-going investigation.
The suspects, who are not a family group and were not accompanied by children, did not pose any immediate risk to public safety, a police spokesman revealed.
Four of the group are men from Birmingham in their 20s.
A man aged 26 and a 23-year-old woman of no fixed abode were also detained.
