The trial of a teenager charged with the murder of 20-year-old Connor Barrett at a party in Hemsby near Great Yarmouth is set to take place in October.

The 17-year-old youth, who is from Great Yarmouth and who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been remanded in police custody and will next appear at Norwich Crown Court next month.

The defendant was not present at a crown court hearing held today during which a plea and case management hearing (PCMH) was set for August 18.

A provisional date for the trial, expected to last between two and three weeks, was also fixed for October 20.

Appearing alongside the defendant at the PCMH on August 18 will be a 15-year-old boy who has been charged with possessing an offensive weapon, actual bodily harm and affray.

The youth, who cannot be named, also did not appear at today’s short hearing.

The police investigation into Mr Barrett’s death, led by the joint Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team (MIT), continues.

Mr Barrett, of Abyssinia Close, died as a result of a wound inflicted at about 11.25pm on Saturday, May 10.

The former Great Yarmouth High School student was the father of a three-year-old boy.

Mr Barrett died at the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston following an incident at a home in The Glebe in Hemsby.

Mr Barrett was a guest at the house party, believed to be a family get-together.
