Residents in a Peterborough street targeted by yobs are “living in fear” according to one resident after his home was attacked.

Luke Rees (25) was waiting outside his home in Eastfield Road, Peterborough, at around 2am on Friday (27 June) when he claims he was racially abused by a group of men.

He dashed back inside the property but minutes later his bedroom window was being pelted with stones until it smashed.

Mr Rees (25) then called the police.

Afterwards, he told the PT he was looking to move from the area after becoming fed-up with similar incidents.

He said: “It’s not very nice when you’re living in fear or afraid to be in your own bedroom.

“I’ve only lived here for four months but there’s been regular incidents like this – my neighbours have had balls kicked at their windows and other people have been abused in the street.

“I don’t know if it’s one gang or people coming home from nights out in town, but I’ve had enough and want to move on.”

Last month police confirmed they were stepping up patrols in the Eastfield Road following complaints from residents about anti-social behaviour.

Sergeant Warren Bottell said: “I have allocated a number of officers to tackle this problem over the next month in order to manage risk and reduce potential harm to residents.”

Mark Woolner, head of the Safer Peterborough Partnership, said: “Improving the quality life for people is a key priority for the council and we are working hard together to make that happen in this part of our city.”

A police spokesman said a 35 year-old man from Peterborough had been arrested in connection with the incident and for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
